drive from Los Angeles or San Francisco, Cambria is the ideal getaway location.
The coastline is dramatic with forested pines running down to the sea. The
climate is "cool Mediterranean" and offers clear blue skies, light seasonal
fog and temperatures averaging 50 - 76 degrees.
Cambria's natural forested setting is enticing to hikers. White sand beaches spread out for beach combers and off-set the volcanic rocks dropped in the sea, leaving privacy tide pools to explore. Linger in the sun for an intoxicating sunset... Start with W.R. Hearst State Beach on a refreshing morning with coffee and breakfast overlooking the ocean views and green lawns growing up to the cliffs edge. Drive eight miles down lovely Highway One's Scenic Route into Cambria's Moonstone Beach Drive for a relaxing escape and romantic interlude, with inns and separate cottages situated across from ocean views. Meander down the boardwalk at sunset each evening. Continue your dining experience in Cambria with Light Jazz, or walk through East and West Villages for some unique shopping experiences. You can spend the day exploring the galleries, shops, and restaurants all along Main Street. Finally, pick up those theater tickets! Surrounding Cambria and continuing down the coast, are wineries. Drive straight into the country from Cambria, thru Hwy 46, to our nearby valleys which offer wine tasting and country drives of breathtaking beauty. Also, enjoy the wine auctions in nearby Paso Robles. Start out from Cambria in a car show and cruise drive down the coast and back again before sunset. Or create your own cruise with friends! Then drive up to Hearst Castle to complete the day with an enchanting evening at Hearst Castle which may include a private tour of the Castle, a champagne dinner and auctions to follow of replica artifacts! Check the calendar at Hearst Castle! There are weekly family special events like Chalk Art carnivals for the children, and Faerie Festivals as well as delightful walks through herb shop gardens. Check into charter boats, and kayaking in Morro Bay, (20 minutes south of Cambria.) Take the day hikes and mountain bike rides on beach front paths at Montana de Oro in Los Osos, or even ride a horse. For shorter day hikes check the forested settings and mountain tops in Cambria on those Santa Rosa Creek trails. Volleyball at the Cambria Lodge, swim in the heated pool at Shamel Park or swim in the heated pools at many of the local inns. For those who like rustic, come join us by the fireside at the grill with a drink or two and drop peanut shells on the floor. Should you want a barbeque and barn dance, then dust off your Stetson and find your boots! You might find some "Ranch Art" photos at East & West Ranch! There's the Pinedorado Days and Annual Art show in August. Craft fairs appear every month during the summer, not to mention the Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles, this year on July 24 thru August 4th!
